There’s nothing like exploring the great outdoors and discovering the wilderness. However, it’s not always as meditative as everyone would want. There are times when it could get scary, particularly when you encounter wildlife.
We’re not talking about insects here. We’re talking about coming across a mountain lion that’s 40 feet away from you.
This is exactly what hiker Trevor Rasmussen experienced. Just as he was exploring Glacier National Park in Montana, he had a stare-down with a mountain lion. It was a massive cat who happened to be walking around and seemingly hiking just like Rasmussen is.
“Once she started coming towards me, that’s when I started yelling because you’re supposed to make a lot of noise, wave your hands, that’s what they tell you to do,” Rasmussen told Inside Edition.
In the video, he could be heard saying: “Hey, hey, back up!”
“She just checked me out, licked her lips. That wasn’t fun to see,” he recalled in the interview. “She never ran away. She just very slowly walked away….She kind of just looked at me,” he said.
Rasmussen was hiking off the 1,200-mile hike of the Pacific Northwest Trail when the incident happened. Lucky for him, the lion was too busy minding its own business and just carried on.
The lion had a noticeable large abscess on its jaw. Rasmussen said he later on reported what he saw to the rangers who wasted no time attending to the sick animal.
To those who keep on asking, yes he was carrying a bear spray.
