Some of the best days of our lives were back when were kids.
We had this natural knack to explore with such great curiosity and very little regard to danger. We’re very much like these two childhood friends who grew up exploring the outskirts of Northern Germany. When they grew up, they went hiking and decided to revisit an old spot they’ve always wanted to go to.
They stumbled upon two strange-looking pipes sticking out from the ground. They appeared seemingly like periscopes but what lies underneath was nothing short of chilling.
The entrance was barred but the determined friends used a crowbar. Once they were in, they were floored with what they discovered. They were welcomed with endless hospital-like hallways, some leading nowhere while others to even more haunting hallways. To say that the acoustic was bone-chilling is an understatement too.
They made sure to document every step. From abandoned shoes and gloves to massive rusting machinery, they quickly realized it was an old bunker. A Redditor who commented on the post said, “As for what it was used for, well that it actually pretty easy. Since you found Cyrillic words on some of the doors. It pretty much narrows it down to an old Cold War bunker run by the Soviets. Likely a command and control bunker as it seems to have very few and small entrances.”
As to whether or not the two would return, the Redditor warned saying “I would caution you though about returning to this bunker. These types of sites can be very dangerous. There could be several levels below the flooded portions likely full of water themselves. This could lead to the concrete in the floor you are walking on to rot for lack of a better term. The reinforcement bars rust and expand breaking the concrete up. This in turn leads to greater water intrusion and it accelerates the process. Bunkers are more susceptible to this as they tend to use a lot of reinforcement bars in their construction.”
Whew! That’s enough hair-raising stories for today.
