To see the quaint villages of Europe, the pristine beaches of Asia and the outback of Australia. It’s truly a gift to be going from point A to point B. That’s why we couldn’t help but feel a tad bit envious when we came across Lauren and Craig’s story.
They’ve taken “life on the road” to a whole new level after spending the last eight years traveling the world in a variety of camper vans. “Craig and I met 8 years ago while working at Pizza Express in the South East of England. We saved up for one year, got working holiday visas for Australia and flew to Sydney in August 2008…and we’ve never looked back since,” Lauren shared in their website.
Mind you, this is no easy feat. The couple has applied for holiday working visas to make their dream come true. They work for the next six months in a foreign country and spend 12 months going as far as their van can take them.
Throughout their journey, Lauren and Craig have bought and sold their vans to make ends meet. When traveling in more expensive countries on the West end, they sleep in their van. When traveling across Asia, cheaper accommodations are easier to find.
What’s their secret? They spend $10 a day each and they don’t go out drinking at bars at night. They are however, massive adrenaline junkies who make sure they get to ride horses, bungee jump, ride rapid rivers and more.
From India to Philippines and New Zealand all the way to Latin America, the pair isn’t slowing down. As to how their last trip went?
“Europe totally blew us away, it was packed full of incredible mountain vistas, pristine beaches, orange deserts, quaint villages, and countless crystal clear lakes to swim in. We saw hundreds of wild flamingoes in France and reindeers, clown-faced puffins and giant sperm whales in Scandinavia. Thanks to the epic scenery and varied culture and architecture, it was our favourite roadtrip so far, if not the most challenging with hooligan drivers and language barriers,” Lauren wrote.
The couple is eyeing a road trip from Alaska to Florida next. We can only imagine what else their wanderlust has in store for them.
