As seasoned backpackers, the dread of choosing hostels is still familiar.
You have so many factors to consider and quite the limited budget to work with. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t stay in the best possible hostel.
Here a few tips you may find handy the next time you book.
Try not to book online
Okay, hear us out. Booking online is faster and easier. However, the expectation-reality limbo mostly results in disappointment when you arrive. We highly suggest you take note of the hostel addresses you’re eyeing. From here, make a phone call for their availability and only book once you’re there. This way, you don’t have to be stuck somewhere you don’t want to be.
Always book one with private lockers
It’s great to be surrounded by people from all walks of life. It’s a learning experience we’ll never trade for anything else. However, the question of security and peace of mind will always linger. So the least you can do is to book somewhere with private lockers. Far too many horror stories of “friendly stranger turned thief” exist in the backpacking world.
Check the facilities
Sure, you’re booking cheap but that doesn’t mean you should deprive yourself of good facilities. If you can, go for hostels that provide private electricity sockets, laundry and coffee/tea facilities. It’s going to make your trip a whole lot easier.
Location, location, location
This is one we can never stress enough. Being at the right hostel in the perfect location gives you ultimate access to a city’s main attractions, public transport and everything else in between. Do your research. You want every trip to pay off. Otherwise, you may end up wasting more time and money.
